Notă biografică

Michael Crossley is Professor of Comparative and International Education, Director of the Research Centre for International and Comparative Studies at the Graduate School of Education, and Director of the Education in Small States Research Group (www.smallstates.net), University of Bristol, UK. He was Editor of the journal Comparative Education from 2004 to 2010, and was Chair and Vice Chair of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE) from 2000 to 2004. Professor Crossley has undertaken teaching, research and consultancy work in numerous small states worldwide, and published the book Educational Development in the Small States of the Commonwealth: Retrospect and Prospect (with Keith Holmes) for the Commonwealth Secretariat in 1999. Before moving to the University of Bristol, he was Associate Dean for Planning and Research at the University of Papua New Guinea. In 2005 he was elected as an Academician by the UK Academy for the Social Sciences (AcSS). Mark Bray is Chair Professor of Comparative Education at the University of Hong Kong. He has worked at the University of Hong Kong since 1986. Between 2006 and 2010 he took leave from the University to work as Director of UNESCO's International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) in Paris. He has widespread professional experience in small states, and has worked closely with the Commonwealth Secretariat on this theme. He has published extensively on research methods in comparative education and on the administration and financing of education, some of it with specific reference to small states. Steve Packer is an independent consultant based in London. From 2002 to 2005, he was Deputy Director of UNESCO's Education for All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report. Prior to that, he worked for the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID) as a Senior Education Adviser in Central Africa and then as Head of Policy in the Education Department. While at the Commonwealth Secretariat (1987-93), he initiated the Secretariat's programme of work on education in small states, and co-authored with Mark Bray a major book on this theme (Pergamon Press, 1993).
