Light and entertaining, but shallow. Plot: interesting enough, although filled with too many coincidences and flimsy reasoning. Characters: underdeveloped, with the exception of the ship AI. Some are tragically underused, like the female Outward agent, or one dimensional, like the perpetually angry ex soldier. World-building: very light and generic, it doesn't have the "lived-in universe" feel of better books. Narration: wasn't a fan. It's in the first person and at times I forgot who's chapter I was reading, as the characters don't really have a voice of their on. You know the feeling when a book stays with you after you finish it? Didn't happen for me here. I'm somewhat curious of what happens in the sequels, but I don't know if I'll get them.
