Energy Intensity in Ukraine

Autor Yevgen Khandyuk
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 25 oct 2013
Ukraine's economy has been in a difficult period of transition in the last seventeen years since independence. Besides severe economic turbulences, the second largest ex-Soviet Republic has witnessed significant changes in the level of energy use per unit of GDP across sectors for many reasons. Yevgen Khandyuk examines the development of energy intensity in Ukraine over time for every sector. His evaluation is based on statistical data and derived from formulas used for the calculation of GDP composition and the share of energy consumption per sector. He precisely describes the methodology used in calculating the energy balance of Ukraine; in particular primary energy production, primary consumption and final consumption. The author applies macroeconomic, economic and environmental analysis to the derived numbers and trends of the energy intensity curves throughout the period 1991 - 2003. In this context, he analyses the reasons behind the problems and proposes solutions. The book addresses environmental economists and politicians.
