Enslaved: True Stories of Modern Day Slavery
Gloria Steinem Editat de Jesse Sage, Liora Kastenen Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 apr 2008
Twenty-seven million people are estimated to be held in slavery around the world today. This collection of first-hand accounts will raise awareness and show how slavery is thriving in the twenty first century. From poverty-stricken countries to affluent American suburbs, slaves toil as sweatshop workers, sex slaves, migrant workers, domestic servants, and chattel slaves. This groundbreaking collection includes accounts written by ten former slaves and slaveholders in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the United States. From Micheline, a Haitian girl who wound up as a domestic worker in Connecticut, to Abdel, a Mauritanian slave owner turned abolitionist, these are stories that will heighten awareness of a global human rights crisis that can no longer be ignored.

Recenzii
'The chilling stories that make up Enslaved describe with terrible immediacy some of the forms enslavement now takes, from the markets of Mauritania to the suburbs of Miami. Nowadays, the word silence is often used in relation to slavery - the complicit silence echoing in the halls of commerce and power; the unheard shout of the distant, illiterate slave. On the eve of this bicentenary, we are assailed by a multitude of voices, and cannot but be gripped by their enduring urgency.' - The Daily Telegraph
'Apparently, a good book is one that gives you an insight into humanity. If true then this one is the epitome of such a work...It highlights how we can all be awoken and change.' - Charlotte Haines-Lyon & Andrew Chapman, www.surefish.co.uk
