Descriere

The son of artist parents, Dahmane was born in Paris on April 21, 1959. His father was a painter and engraver, and his mother a poet and painter. Dahmane became familiar with photography at an early age, being first introduced to it by his grandmother and a photographer friend of his parents. At 15 he began to develop a consuming interest in nude photography, gathering his first experience with two classmates from secondary school, who modelled for him. His predilection for black and white photography has continued into the Millennium; the medium allows him to refine and develop his technique as part of an on-going process. He quickly learned that Leica lenses give you the best results, and for this reason, prefers Leica SLRs and enlargers. Dahmane published his first work before he was 20, including an extensive reportage on the suffering of animals in zoos. At the same time, he worked as a freelance portrait photographer for a range of French magazines, including LExpansion, Capital, LExpress, Le Figaro, VSD, Closer, LUsine Nouvelle and others. Several volumes of his nudes have been released, including Dahmane (bags), Dressed Nudes (Futami-Shobo), Dressed Nudes (Edition Skylight and La Musardine), Erotic Sessions (Edition Skylight and La Musardine) and Addicted to Nudes (Edition Skylight and La Musardine). His nude works have been published all over the world and exhibited in London, Paris, Rome and Los Angeles, among other places. Dahmane still lives in Paris, and continues to devote himself to photographing female nudes and doing portraits. He is represented by the Claude Lemand Gallery.

Notă biografică

Dahmane kommt am 21. April 1959 in Paris als Sohn eines Künstlerpaares zur Welt; der Vater war Maler und Graveur, die Mutter, eine Dichterin, malte ebenfalls. Durch seine Großmutter und eine mit den Eltern befreundete Fotografin kommt er schon früh mit der Fotografie in Berührung. Mit 15 Jahren beginnt er, sich mit Aktfotografie zu befassen. Seine ersten Erfahrungen sammelt er mit zwei Mitschülerinnen aus der Oberstufe, die ihm als Modell dienen. Seine Vorliebe für die Schwarzweiß-Fotografie begleitet ihn bis in die 2000er Jahre und ermöglicht es ihm, seine Entwicklungstechnik kontinuierlich zu verfeinern. Er entdeckt schnell, dass Leica-Objektive die besten Ergebnisse liefern, und entscheidet sich für Spiegelreflexkameras und Vergrößerer von dieser Marke. Schon vor seinem 20. Lebensjahr kann er erste Publikationen vorweisen, darunter eine große Reportage über das Leiden der Zootiere. Parallel dazu arbeitet er als freischaffender Porträtfotograf für verschiedene französische Magazine (L¿Expansion, Capital, L¿Express, Le Figaro, VSD, Closer, L¿Usine Nouvelle etc.). Es erschienen mehrere Fotobände mit seinen Aktaufnahmen, darunter Dahmane (Taschen), Dressed Nudes (Futami-Shobo), Dressed Nudes (Edition Skylight und La Musardine), Erotic Sessions (Edition Skylight und La Musardine), Addicted to Nudes (Edition Skylight und La Musardine). Seine Aktfotografien werden weltweit veröffentlicht und in Ausstellungen gezeigt, unter anderem in London, Paris, Rom und Los Angeles. Im Jahr 2000 steigt Dahmane endgültig auf Digitalfotografie um (Hasselblad/Phase One, danach Canon 5DSR, aktuell Sony A7R4). Von da an fotografiert er seine Modelle unabhängig vom Hintergrund, den er nachträglich einfügt. Dahmane lebt nach wie vor in Paris und widmet sich weiterhin intensiv dem weiblichen Akt sowie seiner Arbeit als Porträtfotograf. Er wird von der Galerie Claude Lemand vertreten.
