He is currently serving as a Principal Research Scientist (2022 June- Dec 2022) in Linkoping University, Linkoping, Sweden. He has received his Ph.D. degree from India in 2007 and completed his post-doctoral training (2007-2015) from the University of Alabama, USA, University of Padova, Italy and University of Linkoping, Sweden. His current research focuses on “Biomarker discoveries for early detection of colorectal cancer”. He has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and 4 books, several book chapters and editorials with 2300 citations and 27 H-index. Dr. Pathak has Edited Springer Book "Cancer Stem Cells: New Horizons in Cancer Therapies" in 2020 and Handbook of Animal Models and its Uses in Cancer Research, 2022. He is the member of various professional research bodies of India including Indian Association of Cancer Research, Indian Science Congress.
Dr. Antara Banerjee, PhD, is presently working as an Associate Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE), Chennai from 2016 till date. After completing her PhD in 2008 from India, Dr. Banerjee pursued her post-doctoral work at University of Padova, Italy and Linkoping University, Sweden (2009-2015). She has published over 95 peer-reviewed articles in International and National Journals and 4 books, several book chapters and editorials with citation index-1408 and H-index 19. The Banerjee’s lab at Chettinad Hospital & Research Institute is now focused on understanding the role of mesenchymal stem cells niche in tissue regeneration and exploring signalling pathways in governing stem cell fate. She is Editor of Springer Book "Cancer Stem Cells: New Horizons in Cancer Therapies" in 2020 and Handbook of Animal Models and its Uses in Cancer Research, 2022. She is the member of various professional research bodies including Indian Association of Cancer Research, Indian Science Congress.
Dr. Asim K. Duttaroy is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, Norway. His research programs focus on the roles of food components on growth and development and the prevention of diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He is also investigating the roles of the antiplatelet and antihypertensive properties of fruits and vegetables. His discoveries of antithrombotic factors in tomatoes and kiwifruits are patented internationally, and three companies (Provexis Limited in the United Kingdom, IDIA AS in Norway, and Genimen Pharmacon in India) are working to commercialize these discoveries. He has published over 350 research articles and reviews, 10 books, and several book chapters and editorials. In addition, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Food &Nutrition Research and a guest editor of several journals such as Nutrients and Frontiers in Physiology.

This book illustrates the recent advancements in the role of functional foods in preventing age-related disorders. It correlates age-related diseases and the effect of dietary compounds from different functional foods, herbs, and nutraceuticals. Notably, the book describes unique nutrition problems in many chronic diseases such as bone disease, cardiovascular disorders, brain disorders, immune disorders, and cancers. The book also discusses the use of functional foods for controlling osteoporosis, improving bone strength, maintaining dental health, controlling obesity, gut health, and maintaining immune function using functional ingredients such as probiotics and prebiotics. Further, it presents the state of the art of aging and nutrigenomics research and the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of bioactive nutrients on major aging-related disorders. Finally, the book embodies the latest findings and the mechanisms of actions of functional foods in aging and degenerative diseases and their beneficial uses in the aged population.
