Stefan Martens is Deputy Director of the German Historical Institute, Paris and coeditor of the journal Francia - Forschungen zur westeuropäischen Geschichte. Jorg Echternkamp is a Fellow of the Militargeschichtliches Forschungsamt, Potsdam, and coeditor of the journal Militargeschichtliche Zeitschrift. He was visiting professor at the University of Calgary/Canada in 2004, visiting scholar at the German Historical Institute in Paris 2006, and has been visiting lecturer at the University of Paris 1 (Sorbonne-Pantheon) and Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg since 2006/7. His major publications include Der Aufstieg des deutschen Nationalismus 1770-1840 [The Rise of German Nationalism], (Frankfurt/New York 1998, ed.), and Germany and the Second World War, vols IX/1-2, (Oxford 2010).
