Notă biografică
Andrzej Lyda is Professor of English in the Institute of English at the University of Silesia, Sosnowiec, Poland. He is currently the Head of the Institute and the Head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting. His main areas of interest are translation and interpreting, psycholinguistics, academic discourse analysis, and interactional linguistics. He holds PhD and post-PhD degrees in linguistics. His recent publications include Reflections on Academic Discourse: Studies in English Lexis (US, 2013), Awareness in Action: The Role of Consciousness in Language Acquisition (Springer, 2013), and Occupying Niches: Culturality, Interculturality, and Aculturality in Academic Research (Springer, 2014). He is presently working on phraseology and rhetorical relations in academic English. Grzegorz Drozdz, PhD, conducts his research in the Institute of English at the University of Silesia, Sosnowiec, Poland. His main interest is cognitive linguistics, with such areas of research as cognitive grammar, the cognitive theory of metaphor and metonymy, and the theory of image schemas. He is currently working on the issue of countability and uncountability in English. In his work, he develops the descriptive tools proposed within these theories, in addition to applying them to language pedagogy, drawing on his extensive experience as a teacher of English. His published articles include "The Structure of a Tense - a Cognitive Analysis", "Cognitive Grammar Tools in Teaching English Tenses - the Case of Present Perfect", "Experiential Foundations of Countability and Uncountability in English", and "The Development of the Theory of Metonymy in Cognitive Linguistics".
