Geoffrey Lewis was a pupil, partner and friend of Francis Mann in the law firm of Herbert Smith for more than thirty years. He retired in 1990 to write. This is his fifth book. The others are lives of Lord Atkin, Lord Hailsham, Sir Edward Carson and a study of the Balfour Declaration. He is married with four children and lives near Saffron Walden.
