The construction industry is male dominated and has the ability to generate employment and income to a large percentage of the unemployed;some of whom have low level of education, training and skills. Factors influencing performance of informal labourers in the construction industry in Kenya include : terms and conditions of employment occupational health and safety related requirements and inadequate organization culture among others.They therefore exhibit features of poverty ,powerlessness ,exclusion and vulnerability. This calls for concerted effort by the government,employers , employees and other stakeholders to address the factors that negatively influence the performance of informal labourers

Mercy Njeri Njogu was born in Gathehu village,Nyeri County,Kenya.She attended Gathehu primary school before proceeding to Kangubiri Girls'and State House Girls' High Schools for her Secondary education.She has B.A(Ed)Hons and M.A in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi.She is currently a teacher at Ihwagi secondary Sch.
