Fairness, Justice and Language Assessment

Autor Tim McNamara, Ute Knoch, Jason Fan
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 21 feb 2019
This book has two goals, each related to the validity of language assessment. The first goal is to explore the difference between fairness and justice in language assessment. The authors distinguish internal and external dimensions of the equitable and just treatment of individuals taking language tests which are used as gatekeeping devices to determine access to education and employment, immigrant status, citizenship, and other rights. The second goal is to show how the extent oftest fairness can be demonstrated and improved using the tools of psychometrics, in particular the models collectively known as Rasch measurement.

As such, these books not only extend the field of applied linguistics itself and lend an additional significance to its enquiries, but also provide an indispensable professional foundation for language pedagogy and its practice. Recenzii

McNamara et al.'s Fairness, Justice and Language Assessment constitutes a solid introduction to Rasch analysis...Being written in a straightforward and instructive manner, the book is accessible for students and scholars who wish to gain an elementary understanding of how Rasch models can be used to address issues of fairness. What makes this book particularly useful are the excellent supplementary materials through which the reader obtains a guided hands-on experience with the different Rasch models...Fairness, Justice and Language Assessment is generally well organised and particularly well written.
