Feeling psychologically stuck, author Nicola Mendenhall ventured into what turned out to be Freudian Analysis--which is the study of what the patient does not want to know and resists mightily. She was well into a decade of analysis before she realized how counter-productive, actually funny, her attitudes and behavior were. Readers are given access to the unconscious as it presents itself to the author and often can figure out what is going within her on before the author does. Mendenhall hoped that by writing of her experience, she would encourage people of any age, but particularly people who have lived well enough for many years, but are still feeling dis-ease, feeling stuck or restless, wanting greater serenity and joy in their lives.
