Textul de pe ultima copertă

John Smith was born into a humble English farming family, but by his early teens he had begun to exhibit the strong character, drive, and thirst for adventure that distinguished him in his journeys. Born in 1580, in the middle of Elizabeth Is reign and Englands resurgence as a world power, John Smith was only sixteen when he left his homeland for the first time and joined an army. He sailed with pirates across the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea, saw war in the Netherlands, Slovenia, Hungary, and what was then known as Transylvania, while experiencing many other countries during the course of his travels. Smith even spent time as a slave. But John Smith will always be known for his adventures in the New World. The history of Virginia is forever anchored by Smiths efforts there to establish an English colonywhat became the first sustained settlementwhile balancing his duties as an ambassador to the Native Americans. Smiths encounters with Pocahontas form the core of his legend, sometimes overshadowing his vital importance in establishing the seed that would become the United States of America. Fearless Captain: The Adventures of John Smith charts the riveting journeys of a man who called the world his home.
