The Story:
Daffodils surround Naomi Carroll's home - a home the 90-year-old will soon leave. As she uproots some of the bulbs for transplanting, she recalls the origin and significance of her precious flowers and takes her great-granddaughter on a journey through time as she begins to share the odyssey of the daffodils.
In this first volume, Naomi recalls that losing her mother was the worst thing that ever happened to her as a child, but admitting she wanted a new mother hurt almost as much. As the story begins, the miseries of life in 1935 clash against the memory of the gracious lady her mother was and the warmth that filled their home before her mother died.
At first Naomi tries to fill her Mama's shoes by refining herself and her reluctant sisters. But when she realizes the task is beyond her reach, she turns to matchmaking.
Filling mama's shoes leads to big trouble for Naomi until she learns that Mama's grace can be found in surprising places.
