A week before Lt. Jamie Landon's two year Army reserve obligation is completed he receives mysterious orders sending him to Vietnam a land at war. It happens this is only weeks before he was to marry his high school sweetheart. The wrath of a woman scorned is visited upon Washington.

This is the Cold War and Communist spies have linked Landon to a priceless underground document. He discovers it is they who have caused him to be sent to Vietnam in the expectation they can use the hazards of war to pressure him to produce what they want. Before Landon's fiancEe's efforts can produce results the varieties of battle result in Landon being declared missing in action, presumed dead. He remains hidden for five years and then brings the fight to them to reclaim his rightful life and hopefully the woman he loves.
