The funny thing about life, no matter what your plans are, life somehow steps in and takes its bows to the many directions one would never even consider let alone think about. Here am I a Christian transferring to work in one of the most infamous male-oriented prisons in the world, but no problem, I would be working with the public in visiting or so I thought. Upon my arrival, still thinking clearly about their visiting program, I was thrown into the sea of male inmates and correctional officers and was told I now would be working the same positions as the male officers. Big surprise The captain tells me to hang on to my hat because Sacramento had declared the Equal Opportunity Rights had been passed, which now meant I would become the first female officer hired at San Quentin and to prepare myself as their first guinea pig. I am in shock now. I am already here hired ready to work, so I shook my head said nothing but inwardly hoping for the best. You the reader will certainly cry with me at times, but most of all, you will laugh at how the many officers who have worked here years before me do the craziest things to survive this dismal environment and how the inmates took care of my safety even making sure I had a fresh flower for my jacket lapel every day I worked at the East Gate helping their loved ones to come in for a brief visit.
