Flying Lessons, Volume II

Autor Holtzin, Rich
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Abstract (Part 1, Book 2): If the ill-fated plane crash depicted in Book 1 wasn't bad enough, and if Lux's remorse about not listening to his conscience or his higher self, or whatever generated the premonitions he had before leaving for the truth, the aftermath of this tragedy got even worse. He's also left with what might be called a blessing because of a singular out of body experience he had just moments before the airplane crash-landed in the trees. That strange and timeless escape from the crash would come back to haunt and perplex him nearly every day. In the meantime, he and Walt waited an excruciating and tense six hours for the search and rescue aircraft to find them far below the thick canopy of trees where they crashed. Because the airplane upended once it landed in the treetops (a makeshift runway Walt though might trap the airplane and keep them above the ground), almost instantly it plunged downward. Lux took the brunt of the injuries when his face slammed into the metal and glass instrument panel. The struggle, shame, and onus of what happened after the plane crash continued after Lux's DOA experience were interrupted (brought back to life in the Emergency Room). After a long stint in the hospital, and two major surgeries following the initial surgery that saved his life and restored his facial features, Lux eventually returned to Denver a disenfranchised soul, sensing he was more ghostly than human. Trying to put his life and marriage back together, he struggled with this post-crash phase more than the trauma and drama that turned his life upside down and inside out after the crash. His transition from a former easygoing and amiable personality, and a veritable man for all seasons (i.e., his many interests, passions, and talents in life), the private hell he suffered through lasted for about a year. Eventually, his marriage was over. Giving up his gregarious lifestyle, he relinquished his share of materials (i.e., the house, furnishings, and other prized possessions he and JoHanna had accumulated for nearly ten years since arriving in Colorado). He also nearly lost his best friend, Walt, but decided to forgive him for what was an unspoken pilot error (namely, Walt's) and an overloaded airplane. In time, Lux bid his wide circle of friends goodbye, quit his successful teaching practice, and decided to backpack around the world for a year or two. Upon his return, he would move to the high country, Georgetown, Colorado. (That story and part of his life also entails a sequel to "Flying Lessons," published under the name, "Skye Keep").In short, Lux's halcyon days living in Denver's Front Rage of the Rockies had come to an end. Still, he learned how to forgive himself and picked up the broken pieces of his estranged life. Although his life did, in fact, begin anew, Walt's life ended in a tragic and senseless crash about a year after the failed cross-country flight came to an end.
