The history of Valley Forge is a tragic story of starvation, disease, desertion and despair. It was at Valley Forge where men like Martin Andrews, the son of a Christian minister, epitomized what the war meant and the bitter consequences if American freedom was not realized. A disgraced soldier who had been demoted for his cowardice in battle, Lieutenant Andrews swore to vindicate himself and prove that he was worthy of command and the respect of his men.
