Forks in the Road: Teacher, Soldier, Spy, cartea 2

Autor Dale W. Forsythe
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 15 iun 2016

"... His style of writing and converting real world situations into fiction is very impressive. As a former helicopter pilot and Vietnam Vet, I can honestly say it doesn't come across as fiction to me....

--Chuck Crabb, Colonel, USAF, Retired

In this second book in the TEACHER, SOLDIER, SPY trilogy, FORKS IN THE ROAD, First Lieutenant Williams is a Vietnamese language interpreter assigned to the Special Forces Green Beret camp near the Cambodian border in South Vietnam. The camp is overwhelmed by enemy artillery fire. Blasted out of his bunk in a near-miss, the Lieutenant is thrown several feet and loses consciousness. To survive, he must slide the length of the slit trench which leads to a tree-line and temporary safety. One-hundred-fifty meters of sewage stand between him and the freedom to fight another day.

"I crawled for what felt like a mile ... into the dark underbrush. Finally, I collided with the twisted roots of a huge tree and buried myself in the damp leaves accumulated at the roots. This moment would alter the course of my life forever." Follow Lieutenant Williams as he navigates the hazards of the war in Vietnam in 1965.

This book is the second, in the Teacher, Soldier, Spy trilogy that chronicles two wars: Vietnam and the Russian Afghan War. The other two books in the trilogy are The Operative: Escape from Saudi Arabia and the Afghan Bear Trap, set in Russia.

Notă biografică

Forsythe lived in Saudi Arabia with his family for a period of ten years. Near the end of his contract, the Saudi Secret police arrested Dr. Forsythe, along with three of his col-leagues. The charge was that of "Jewish Spy." It was touch-and-go for a time but, after seven months of house arrest, the charge was mysteriously dropped. The experience must have had a delayed impact on the author's writing. Following that experience, writing "spy" fiction seemed to be a natural progression and was the catalyst for the three-book "spy novel" series called Teacher, Soldier, Spy. The three books in the series are The Operative, Forks in the Road, and The Afghan Bear Trap, all published by Quinn Press. The author's work experience has been long and var-ied: a stonemason's helper, six years in the military, an edu-cator, and a clinical psychologist. Dr. Forsythe is a physical-fitness nut, with a rabid exercise regimen. He runs races; does daily power yoga; and recently reached his lifelong goal of the Marine Corps maximum for pull-ups, twenty reps. The author has taken up rope climbing ... much to his wife's chagrin. This very senior citizen ascends and de-scends a fifteen-foot rope-hanging from a tree in his backyard-twenty times, every other day. This crazy activity has found its way into his novel, ISIS: Our Children at Risk. The author has taken great pleas-ure in spiking the ISIS novel with characters who were cre-ated for his Teacher, Soldier, Spy trilogy. Dr. Forsythe received his doctorate in the field of counseling psychology from the University of Montana. Dale recently retired as a licensed clinical psychologist.
