Mario is born on a ship transporting Italian immigrants to America in the early 1900's. His life is as tempestuous as the stormy sea on their journey across the Atlantic. The Great Depression and WWII are major influences throughout his life. A self-taught chef, he becomes caught up in a life of crime where his only friends are gangsters. A passionate and obsessed charismatic con man, his gambling addiction proves to be his undoing.
