Mark Stevens is the Vice President of a very successful engineering company. At sixty-five, he is seriously considering retirement and buying a nice sail boat to live out his dream of exploring the island paradises of the Caribbean. He had postponed the dream for seven long years after a happy and productive life was interrupted by monumental grief - a tragic car accident that took his wife and only daughter from him. The following year was almost unbearable. He immersed himself in his work and accepted the support of close friends as he fought to maintain his sanity. Business and financial success did not replace happiness lost, but Mark is the kind of man who finds ways to escape dark places. After meeting a wonderful woman who shares his passion for sailing, a cruel twist of fate intervenes to dramatically expedite Mark's retirement plans. The new revelation presents extremely difficult choices when his life has just been turned upside down. Mark decides to make the best of it; throws caution to the wind and buys the sailboat he has envisioned for years. With his new-found love, they set out to enjoy the Caribbean paradises both have dreamed about. The trip meets all their expectations until a fly in the ointment provides a bit more drama than anyone could have imagined. The book is richly laced with stimulating dialogue among fully developed characters, all of whom must deal with exceptional and unexpected circumstances. It is a rather tragic and moving love story between two mature adults, their personal story and their relationship with close friends by their side. The action sequences during the sailing adventure are mesmeric, while the ending is both inevitable and surprising.
