Fourteen and a Half Hours in a Thatched Cottage

Autor Ann Jordan-Mills, Pat M. Jordan
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 20 dec 2016
141/2 Hours in a Thatched Cottage is the title my mother gave to this little story when she wrote it. A few years ago, I came across an old exercise book in which she had written about a holiday that was to fulfil one of her lifelong dreams - a holiday in a thatched cottage. Mum's holiday didn't turn out quite as she had envisioned; it was a holiday of errors. So you could say this is a cautionary tale -- make sure you know where you are going to stay when you rent a so-called "romantic" location. I have transcribed my mother's own words, and I am publishing this little book in her memory and honour. I wish she were here to see it.

Notă biografică

Pat Jordan was a prolific letter writer. She used to write and receive at least one letter a day - often more. I am her eldest daughter, Ann, and I was a recipient of many of Mum's letters over the years - sent to me when I emigrated from England to Canada. I still have most of them. She was born in the North East of England and both of her maternal grandparents had travelled to live there directly from Ireland - thus she had a longing to spend time in the country of her ancestors. Pat was an elementary school teacher for many years, but primarily she was the mother of four children, thirteen grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, some of whom she met, and some of whom came along after she had gone. Above all, Pat - my mother - was a consummate storyteller.
