Starting with the 650th anniversary of the Peace of Stralsund in 1370, the anthology looks at other peace agreements in the Baltic Sea region up to the 20th century. These include the Perleberg Peace of 1420, the Stettin Peace of 1570, the peace treaties at the end of the Great Northern War in 1720 and the Danish-German border treaty of 1920. He explores the question of what peace meant for the parties to the treaty at the time. The second part of the volume deals with the end of the war in 1945 from the point of view of the Baltic Sea countries.
