The seventeenth-century Gurneys, Barclays, Hanbury and Hoares were part of the Quaker movement. Their integrity gained respect and attracted investors to the banking, weaving and brewing industries they started. Later Buxton led the anti-slavery campaigns and Elizabeth Fry set about reforming prisons.A remarkable international family well researched by Verily Anderson, who still lives at Northrepps, the Gurney family home in Norfolk.
