From Germany to Brazil

Autor Landau-Remy, Mr Andr' Cu Landau-Remy, Mr Heinrich
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Heinrich Landau-Remy, born in the Rhineland, and Maria n'e Krte, born in Berlin, married in 1934 and migrated to Brazil in 1935. Years earlier, Heinrich had begun working just before hyperinflation hit Germany. He lived for a few years in England and in France, and witnessed the rise of Nazism. Having a Jewish grandfather, and thus considered to be "non-Aryan," he chose to leave Germany, a country he never ceased to love. This book recounts Heinrich and Marias lives. It also describes their often illustrious family histories and relatives, who include a president of Austria, a Nobel Prize winner, and significant industrialists, artists, and intellectuals (including the Wittgenstein family). Heinrichs Landau grandparents were friends with the composers Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Max Bruch. The book also describes the move, by various relatives, to Argentina and to the United States, as well as the history of the Trechman branch in England. Written by Andr' Landau-Remy, Heinrichs grandson, the book was initially based on long texts left by Heinrich. Lastly, Andr' describes his childhood memories of his grandparents house in Petrpolis, in the mountains near Rio de Janeiro.
