From the Colonies to Katherine Mansfield

Autor Kevin Boon
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 28 ian 2021
In this comprehensive and probing story of the life of Sir Harold Beauchamp, Kevin Boon traces the path of a remarkable self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to become a leading figure in the development of banking, commerce and the arts in New Zealand. From his origins as an immigrant to an undeveloped colony Beauchamp's life runs parallel to that of an emerging nation during a defining period in New Zealand's history. His reputation as energetic, reliable and trustworthy is affirmed by an astonishing volume and variety of commercial and administrative interests and responsibilities over a long career marked by immense character and resourcefulness. Father to the hugely successful author Katherine Mansfield, his influence on her writing and vital role in her widespread literary success is significant and lasting, as is his legacy as one of the most prominent nation-builders of his time.

Notă biografică

Kevin Boon is a New Zealand author who has written plays, television programmes and over 100 books, including novels and short stories, however most of his work has been non-fiction about aspects of New Zealand history. His most recent publication is Toby's Endeavour Voyage, which describes the amazing voyage of James Cook, his passengers and crew, aboard H.M.S. Endeavour, told through the eyes of an imaginary Cabin Boy, Toby Robinson. Disillusioned by the loss of life aboard the Endeavour, Toby settled down to a quiet life as a country doctor, but after the death of his wife he signs on as surgeon aboard H.M.S. Victory, under the command of Admiral Horatio Nelson. Kevin states, "I enjoy writing both fiction and nonfiction but I like to tell the story from the point of view of a character in the story as it enables me to describe the atmosphere and emotional situation with greater intimacy.
