Geddin the Hole!

Autor Frazer Grundy
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Product DescriptionGeddin the Hole is the hilarious story of four ordinary golfers who have an extraordinary adventure, with a glowing foreword written by golfing legend Gary Player.Speedy is seriously teed off. He was delighted to be playing in Lofty's company golf day - it gave him the ideal chance to get his own back on Derek Bingley, the man who'd stabbed him in the back some years earlier. The match had unfolded perfectly, and Speedy could almost taste revenge. But then Lofty lost his nerve, did the unforgivable and wrecked Speedy's plans in the process.Lofty is adamant that his cunning scheme will pay dividends, but things go from bad to worse as it backfires spectacularly, ruining much more than just a golf match.Geddin the Hole is a fast-paced, humour-filled romp through the highs and lows of friendship, family and the wonderful game of golf, as Speedy and Lofty recruit a pair of unlikely characters to form the Ferkaryer Four, then make a desperate attempt to get even with their nemesis.Acclaim for Geddin the Hole If you've been looking for a novel that not only encapsulates the excitement of golf but does so in a light-hearted way, then look no further. Geddin the Hole is that book Dale Hayes, one of SA's top golf broadcasters.Geddin the Hole is a highly entertaining caper that captures the challenges of golf, business and life beautifully. I highly recommend it.Rhys Hughes, Executive Director, the Pro Shop www.theproshop.co.zaAnyone who loves golf will love this book. I couldn't put it down Wayne J. Bosley, MD of Vision Golf www.visiongolfball.comAs a non-golfer I wasn't sure what to expect, but I needn't have worried. The comical tale of the Ferkaryer Four had me in tears of laughter one minute and in tears of despair the next. An incredibly good read Sam Cowles, the University of HuddersfieldReviewI recently finished Geddin the Hole , Frazer Grundy's first novel, a humorous look at the competitive - some might say cutthroat - side of golf. Set on the fairways of Westlake and Steenberg golf clubs, Geddin the Hole tells the story of the Ferkaryer Four - a hastily assembled foursome whose main ambition is to take on the odious Bingley and beat him in a prestigious competition. To say why each of them feels so strongly about doing this would be to give away the plot of this well-crafted story. Suffice to say that there is enough trickery, shenanigans, monkey business and high jinks to keep the reader entertained from start to finish. Speedy, the narrator, tells the story in a fresh and engaging voice, welcoming us into his life and thoughts as if we were old friends. (At times I felt as if I knew him a little too closely, but this didn't detract from the novel overall.) It doesn't take long before we are just as keen as Speedy is to see the Ferkaryer Four victorious, for each of them is endearing in his own way: fumbling bumbling Lofty, Big G the gentle chivalrous giant, Dodgy whose name says it all, and Speedy whose progress around the golf course is in no way a reflection of his nickname. Not to mention the fact that Bingley becomes more and more unpleasant each time we encounter him.I have to be quite honest here: what little I know about golf is dangerous. And Geddin the Hole is a book about golf - filled with golfing references to strokes, skill and strategy. This in no way interfered with my enjoyment of the story; these aspects are skilfully woven into the story and so this reader learned a little without feeling as if she was being instructed. The Ferkaryer Four offer great scope for future adventure (and misadventure ). I hope that Geddin the Hole is the first of many stories about them.Maire Fisher, founder of the Live Writing site
