Generation of All-pole 2-D Digital Filters from All-pass Filters

This work investigates the possibility of obtaining 2-D all-pole low-pass filters, starting from all- pass filters. Previously, it has been shown that only 2-D band-pass and/or band-elimination filters were possible, when the starting point was the corresponding all-pass filters. In order to obtain such low-pass filters, the structure has been modified and the corresponding design procedure is enunciated. Starting from such analog low-pass filters, 2-D digital filters (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band-elimination) have been obtained by the use of generalized bilinear transformations, which ensure stability. Further, it has been demonstrated that such filters can be effectively used in image processing applications.

Venkat Ramachandran received Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science,India. He is Professor, Concordia University, Canada. He has authored a large number of papers in Circuits and Systems. He has got a number of Teaching Excellence and research awards. Ajay Bhatt completed his M.A.Sc degree from Concordia university.
