Lt Colonel George Thomas Chaloner served with the British Indian Army in the Second World War and was stationed in India during the turbulent period of transition from British rule to independence in 1947. This diary documents George's interactions with locals, fellow officers and the vast Indian terrain as well as the exotic wildlife (including elephants, tigers and bison ).
