Gertrud Bodenwieser and Vienna's Contribution to Ausdruckstanz: Choreography and Dance Studies Series

Editat de Bettina Vernon-Warren, Charles Warren
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 19 aug 1999
Born in Vienna in 1890, Gertrud Bodenwieser became a leading exponent of Ausdruckstanz (Expressionist Dance) during the 1920s and 1930s, developing a definitive personal style and a philosophy of dance that distinguished her from all her contemporaries. In 1938 she emigrated to Australia to start her career afresh with the remaining nucleus of her company from Nazi-occupied Austria. In this collection of writings (initially compiled by Bettina Vernon and posthumously completed by her husband Charles Warren) each contributor highlights Bodenwieser's achievements from a different perspective, with reminiscences from her pupils and company members, together with scholarly studies.

Recenzii

"An elucidating work, not only about Gertrud Bodenwiesser, but also about Ausdruckstanz...The dance history side is covered comprehensively." -- Tanz Affiche
"Fascinating...Worth reading...Any book that attempts to bring the work of important but perhaps neglected figures in the dance world to the attention of a wider community is to be commended...Some of the articles are interesting for the background information...Perfect material for the development of connections with other aspects of Bodenwieser's background and career." -- Dance Chronicle
