»How to Make Law more Understandable. An Empirical Evaluation of the Linguistic Legal Editorial at the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection«: Complaints about incomprehensible legal provisions have a long tradition in the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 2009, the »Language Scrutiny Office« (Redaktionsstab Rechtssprache) and the »Unit for Legal Drafting Support« (Sprachbüro) at the Federal Ministry of Justice have been entrusted with the linguistic optimisation of legislative drafts. The book documents the results of an empirical research project (2019-2021) commissioned to evaluate the linguistic editorial and to develop recommendations for optimising legislation.
