How does the Get GRIT Journal work?

As a parent, the Get GRIT Journal will provide you with the tools to better connect with your child and teach life-long skills which will serve them in every area of their life. Children are encouraged to meet each week with a journal mate (parent, grandparent or friend), who they can share their journaling experience with. The role of the journal mate is to listen, to share experiences, and to guide the child through each lesson. The child's age and ability will determine the level of scaffolding required from their journal mate. The journal is not about a child's reading and writing skills but about nurturing strong mental health and well-being by empowering children to be resilient, to enjoy healthy and positive relationships, to tackle life's challenges with grit and to reach their true potential. Get GRIT is about learning the most important skills in life.

About the Journal

The word 'grit' is often used to describe resilience, perseverance and determination. Get GRIT aims to develop grit and much more. GRIT is an acronym for Getting Along, Building Resilience, Identifying Emotions and Taking Responsibility.

The journal consists of 10 lessons that teach participants how to:
