Ghost in the Machine

Autor Michael Crowe
en Limba Engleză Paperback
In the year 2050 the world stood on the brink of annihilation, civilization poised on the edge of extinction as war escalated out of control in a world gone mad. Nuclear weapons and biological warfare descended like fire from heaven causing mayhem and carnage on every continent. The world quickly sank into the barbarity and savagery of the dark ages. All communication ceased and the survivors grouped together in packs to scavenge the wastelands for what food and shelter they could find. Some of these tribes reverted almost immediately to cannibalism. Other groups were affected by the new toxins created by the nuclear and biological war and mutated into hideous insect or beast-like creatures. Some of the military and outlying army posts managed to survive using their superior weaponry to take what they needed from defenceless groups. Years passed, decades then centuries while the earth became nothing more than a scorched wasteland filled with pestilence and death. Meanwhile, deep underground entombed in vast bunkers protected from the war, the military and civil authorities in order to survive the holocaust, lay frozen, suspended in their cryogenic chambers in a death like state. They would be resurrected by a giant military computer named the 'Messiah' that would breathe the breath of life back into them by initiating a special bio-computer protocol known as project Lazarus. Stage one of the highly classified project selected the best candidates to become cyborgs. They would be the first of the scouts to emerge from the safety of the bunkers, law enforcers with high tech bodies and minds and carrying awesome weaponry. Their prime directive is to terminate any and all possible threats to civilized society and to re-establish the rule of law over the surface dwellers.
