This manual presents a three-step technique for adding layers of visual interest to representational quilts. The author walks the reader through the three steps from start to finish and discusses how to combine them for dramatic results. The steps are: making a design based on a photograph or a drawing; adding a ghost shape that is lighter or darker than the base block colours; and creating a colour wash that allows use of more colours in the quilt. The blocks are constructed using raw-edge or turned-edge applique. The book also includes the author's seven-step programme for choosing perfect fabric combinations.
