Global Environmental Politics and International Organizations: The Eurasian and European Experience
Editat de Anastassia Obydenkovaen Limba Engleză Hardback – 7 mai 2024
The first perspective developed in this book investigates European IOs (e.g., the EU, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and newly emerged Eurasian IOs (e.g., the Eurasian Economic Union, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank). The second perspective unfolds various environmental issues within the EU and across post-Communist EU members and candidate states (e.g., in Serbia, Latvia, Hungary). The analysis of these two perspectives discloses multiple dimensions in the impact of the EU and other regional and non-regional IOs on sustainable development. The book aspires to shed more light on the nexus of political and economic developments, and to contribute to better understanding of the role of a variety of IOs in sustainable development in Europe and Eurasia.
The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Post-Communist Economies.

"Anastassia Odybenkova’s excellent collection of empirically rich chapters offers a host of insights about interactions between international organizations and Central European and Eurasian states and societies – all valuable contributions to our understanding of contemporary policy outcomes and political dynamics."
Stacy D. VanDeveer, Professor of Global Governance and Human Security, University of Massachusetts Boston (USA)
"Eurasia has only seldom been a focus on global environmental politics despite the region’s importance for (fossil) resources. This carefully edited collection gives the region the attention it deserves. The theoretically informed empirical analyses provide insights for the region and beyond."
Jale Tosun, Professor of Political Science, Heidelberg University (Germany)
"This volume enriches our understanding of regional environmental governance by confronting lessons and expectations derived mostly from the European experience with empirical studies of international organizations with memberships more diverse or volatile on the democratic-authoritarian dimension. It advances the study of authoritarian regionalism by examining the interplay of global, regional, national and private institutions on a string of pressing sustainable-development issues."
