Globalization and the Challenges of a New Centur – A Reader
Autor Patrick O`meara, Howard & Carole Mehlinger, Matthew Krainen Limba Engleză Paperback – 21 iun 2000
The fact that we live in a globally interconnected world has become a cliche. Scholars, business leaders, and policy makers are increasingly concerned with globalisation, yet the study of these changes is still in its infancy. There is little consensus on how to approach the subject of globalisation or how our lives will be affected by it. By bringing together a number of major thinkers and different perspectives, this book provides an introduction to the topic. It broadens the scope and lays the ground work for an interdisciplinary collaborative dialogue.

Recenzii
"If you want to catch up on some of the best articles written about globalisation since the topic became fashionable several years ago, this reader is the place to start. Meant for students it pulls together pieces from such different sources as Atlantic Monthly and the Harvard Business Review. It ranges from Samuel Huntingdon's influential essay in Foreign Affairs, "The Clash of Civilizations" (1993) to an article on "The Promise of Genetics" from the Futurist in 1997. Organised by topic the book is pleasingly eclectic. For a radical perspective, you can read, for instance, the manifesto of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement of Peru. The book also has a brief guide to globalization resources on the web."--The Economist, October 14, 2000
"Globalisation and the Challenges of the New Century is an anthology of previously published articles. . . the editors should be congratulated for moving beyond the established canon of political economy to include writings by environmentalists and one piece by an Indian corporate manager rather than more words from the familiar voices of the western business scene. The great strength of the editors' selection, however, is that it tends towards fairly accessible texts. . . for those who need a more gentle point of entry into contentious debates, these can be very useful additions to teaching curricula."--The Times Higher Education Supplement, Textbook Guide, Issue No. 7, 24 November 2000
