James Gordion is the survivor of a scientific team devastated by nuclear fallout from the atomic weapons dropped on Pakistan by India in 2014. Now, in 2016, Professor Gordion struggles with disease and a doomsday clock in his Texas environmental science laboratories. He is on the verge of saving the world from the grips of a two-year-long nuclear winter, but the cancer from his radiation poisoning may take him first. His greatest support is from a DARPA agent-his brother Phillip's former lover. Phillip Gordion dies in a freak car accident in Washington D.C. as the agent, James Allen, welcomes him back from a secret mission in Germany. James Allen is dedicated to tracking down Phillip's killers, preserving James Gordion until the final tests with the HAARP can be concluded, and balancing the reigns of Congressional power that threaten his abilities to find his solutions. A well known pro-Nazi geneticist, Dr. Elizabeth Tanner, draws DARPA's attention as she leads a team of specialists in Leipzig. There she tries to unlock the mysteries of a perfectly preserved, frozen woman, possibly older than written history, stolen from an ice cave in Spain. The Basques and their ETA terrorists also claim this frozen wonder as their own, but as the goddess Mari who they worship as a protector of pregnant women and of children. Tanner believes she is far more than that, and may be the harbinger of the Fourth Reich. Tables turn as DARPA, Tanner, and an ETA assassin will all seek to find the secrets locked in the frozen remains, while the tumorous knot in James Gordion eats away at mankind's only hope of surviving a catastrophic ice age.
