Gheorghe Georgiana-Laura a dat nota:
Review for "Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse" by Chris Riddell: It's the first volume from the "Goth Girl" series written by the British bestseller author, Chris Riddell. The story follows Ada who lives at Ghastly-Gorm Hall with her father, Lord Goth, many servants and ghosts. One night, Ada meets the ghost of a mouse called Ishmael. Together they explore the big scary house at night and find out that there is more than meets the eye. Things get tense when they discover a mysterious letter addressed to Maltravers, the gamekeeper. So, it is up to Ada and her friends to uncover the mystery. Mr. Riddell revived Gothic literature to the modern readers, especially through his knowledge about this genre, different personalities who are important in literature (Mary Shelley and William Thackeray for example) and in British history (Capability Brown, an Eighteenth Century English landscape architect for example). The writing style is simple and easy to understand and the puns are also present (an example can be Mary Shellfish which is a combination between the name of the author who wrote "Frankenstein", Mary Shelley and the word "shellfish" which means a variety of species of water-dwelling creatures). The readers will love this gothastic novel through which they'll explore the wonderful world of the Goth family and will identify themselves with some of the characters. Ada is the image of the curios, well-bred girl who is full of spunk. She represents the past, present and future of the Goth family and she's the reminder of Parthenope in Lord Goth's eyes. Lord Goth represents the sensible poet who prefers to just "hear his daughter, but not exactly see her" ever since his wife died. He's the noble version of Edgar A. Poe and we can say that he bears a resemblance to Mr. Craven from "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett since both characters keep their children isolated ever since the accident with their wives. Ishmael is the image of the adventurer and poet-to-be. Adventures, Gothic landscapes, secret corridors and rooms, bravery, friendship, the father-daughter relationship, races and much more awaits the readers at every page they read. I recommend this book to readers 12+ since there are some scenes which are too scary for younger readers.

This makes it hard for her to make friends and, if she's honest, she's rather lonely. Then one day William and Emily Cabbage come to stay at the house, and together with a ghostly mouse called Ishmael they and Ada begin to unravel a dastardly plot that Maltravers, the mysterious indoor gamekeeper, is hatching. Ada and her friends must work together to foil Maltravers before it's too late!
