Abstract: This two-volume text is what the title states--an anthology based on all the relevant topics about the Grand Canyon. From the rim to the Colorado River, the subject matter includes the following subject matter that are discussed at length: geology, ecology, archeology, natural history, human history, a rafting excursion from Lee's Ferry (mile-0) to the Grand Wash Cliffs (mile-277), which is the terminus of the canyon, the John Wesley Powell 1869 expedition through the Green and Colorado rivers canyon country, an informative backpack equipment list, geologic glossary (terms and definitions), and the before, during, and after story of Glen Canyon because the release of unnaturally cold water at the base of the Glen Canyon Dam dramatically affected the downstream riparian corridor through the Grand Canyon. Additionally, there is a chapter devoted to all the canyon's hiking trails, two descriptive write-ups from the author's THE BALLADS OF THE GRAND CANYON soundtrack (recorded and released in 1986), and the popular Grand Canyon creation theories touted by Colorado Plateau geologists (i.e., the how, what, where, when, and why factors). Considering the vast amount of information in this anthology, the textbook reads like an encyclopedia and can be read cover to cover or piecemeal, depending on what the reader chooses to read or skip over. As a retired educator and instructor for the likes of the Grand Canyon Field Institute, most of what I did for a living for some forty years entailed teaching various geosciences, natural and human history, environmental sciences, zoology, mathematics, and assorted published writings.
