Patthana is an award-winning village garden in Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, home for the past 20 years to artist TJ Maher and his partner. When they bought the property the garden was neglected and presented a blank canvas for artist TJ to create a beautiful, sustainable and wildlife friendly garden - which he has done. In Grounded in the Garden, his first book, TJ explores the practical considerations which come into play when making a garden that combines horticultural and artistic excellence. He goes deep into such subjects as using color, implementing designs and ideas, choosing the best plants for each season, supporting wildlife, and creating borders and pot displays. His occasional reflections on nature add an extra dimension. The book, as well as being both practical and thought-provoking, is a visual feast: the beauty of the garden - its plants, animals and color - is celebrated through both TJ's images and those of professional garden photographers Clive Nichols and Jason Ingram, and wildlife photographer Kieran Neary.
