Private investigator Mike Archangeli thought that no case could shock him. Especially the missing person case brought to him by the pretty young woman who showed up at his office with no money, on the recommendation of a priest. But Mike would do anything for Father Gilhooly and if helping Jenny find her son would please Father, well how difficult could it be? As it turns out, shockingly difficult. That same morning, at precisely the same time, Stephanie Hoyt sits in the reception area of her new employer, Reproductive Services of America, waiting with great excitement for her first day of work to begin. A year out of college and the only work up to this point she has been able to find is as a part-time cashier. The job at RSA is her dream. She is determined to do it well. Despite her qualifications and abilities, she won't be able to. Mike's efforts to find the child turn into a quest to save the child. To this end Mike befriends Stephanie and uses her to get inside RSA where the child has been held since Jenny donated him as a virtual abortion two years before. RSA collects unwanted babies that would have otherwise been aborted for use in a breakthrough medical procedure called genetic regeneration therapy. Mike is using Stephanie but is she also using Mike? Along the way an old friend is found and another might be lost. Mike is forced to jump from a moving train. A murder must be covered up. Old wounds are opened and Mike finally faces the pain he has buried for the past 20 years. In trying to save the child Mike ends up saving Stephanie, and with the potential for a new beginning, she just might save Mike.
