While Robert Aldridge helped with children at the Council Road Baptist church, Bethany, Oklahoma, he read in the Reader's Digest an account of how "Silent Night" was written due to a mouse that had gnawed a hole in the church's organ bellows. The story inspired Robert to write the tale "Gus, the Christmas Mouse" - Gus's encounters with a cow, a cat, an owl, and a weasel that made him very tired and hungry. Being in the right place and time instigated the creation of the beloved Christmas carol, "Silent Night." Robert read the story to the children, then his son, Rusty, played the carol on the guitar. Everyone sang.
