The publication is based on the editor's discussions with the architect, civil engineer, and artist Hans-Walter Müller, who has been developing forms of pneumatic architecture since the late 1960s. Müller has designed inflatable volumes for artists like Jean Dubuffet, Salvador Dali, and Maurice Béjart and has himself had his permanent home in an air structure on an airfield south of Paris since 1973. Hans-Walter Müller and the Living House combines conversations, photographs and drawings from Müller's archive with early texts written by the architect and a comprehensive catalogue raisonné covering the period from 1961 to 2021. The publication thus provides German and French readers with the first in-depth study of the life's work of the visionary architect and champion of living architecture, who will be honoured in 2021 and 2022 with exhibitions at aut in Innsbruck, the Centre Pompidou in Metz, and the Cité de l'Architecture in Paris.
