Harvesting the Sky: Volume 2: Botanique Noire

Autor Karen Hugg
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 6 sep 2021
(spoilers): Harvesting the Sky is about a botanist, Andre Damazy, who discovers a rare medicinal apple in Kazakhstan before bringing it back to Paris and growing its trees in a secret greenhouse. The issue is personal for him since this special apple super charges the immune system and may be able to help many ill people, especially people like his mother who's suffered a stroke. But an unknown stranger harasses Andre, threatening him with phone calls and notes, before vandalizing his greenhouse and trees. While Andre isn't sure why he's being targeted, he wonders if it's related to a mistake he made in his past, related to an elderly woman and his father's orchard business in California. As Andre struggles to keep the trees safe, he enlists the help of Renia, a plant shop manager who was the main character in The Forgetting Flower. She knows how to keep the greenhouse secure and may or may not return the growing love Andre is beginning to feel for her. When the stranger attacks Renia one night, Andre turns furious, taking the matter into his own hands, ultimately finding and confronting the stranger in a dark alley. He discovers the stranger is a member of an extremist religious group who believe Andre is doing the work of the devil. In a struggle, the stranger gets away and after a chase, Andre's left with a broken arm. At Andre's lowest point, he's left battered and sleeping in his greenhouse, paranoid at what his adversary might do. Then, during a brief trip away, the stranger sets fire to the greenhouse and burns all of Andre's trees. After the police arrest the stranger and Andre thinks his entire project is lost, Renia presents him with the original sapling he brought back from Kazakhstan, ensuring he can propagate the trees again.
