Eamonn Delahanty, a forty-seven year old traveling salesman of humble circumstances, is not only rejuvenated, but transformed by a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Expecting only a brief visit to the museum just 100 miles from his home in Upstate New York, Eamonn ("A.D" to everyone but his wife) stays much longer and undergoes a metamorphosis. Compelled by one particular display in the HOF, he finds he must lengthen his stay so long that his wife Nancy begins to wonder about him. He leaves the Hall a completely changed man, one who can now play baseball much better than he could have ever imagined. In the process, everything about A.D. Delahanty - his athletic ability, confidence level, personality, and outlook on life - changes. Not only does A.D. change dramatically as a result of his visit, but the lives of his spouse, daughter-in-law, newfound friends Gehrig and Jimi, and countless professional ballplayers and coaches as well. Although Rowlee's fourth novel is set once again in his favored milieu of baseball, HE PLAYS LIKE COBB ventures into an altogether "Other-worldly" realm previously unmatched in literature.
