LORRAINE D. JACKSON is Assistant Professor of Speech Communication at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She was a contributor to African-American Orators: A Biocritical Sourcebook (Greenwood, 1996).BERNARD K. DUFFY is Professor of Speech Communication at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Of his four previous books, the two most recent are The Politics of Rhetoric: Richard M. Weaver and the Conservative Tradition (Greenwood, 1993) and Douglas MacArthur: Warrior as Wordsmith (Greenwood, 1997). He is also the co-editor with Halford Ryan of the Great American Orators series for Greenwood Press.
