His Mother's Gift

Autor John C. Williams
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Life couldn't get much worse for Sammy Wilde. It's the middle of WWII, and, after hearing the devastating news that his father is missing in action, twelve-year-old Sammy watches helplessly as his grandmother suffers a fatal heart attack, leaving him without a guardian. The Sisters of the Holy Blood, an orphanage in Oakland, California, takes him in, and it's there that he meets his half-brother, eleven-year-old Evan, product of the brutal rape of Sammy's mother by a psychotic serial killer. Evan, an orphan since his mother died in childbirth, is just as evil as his father, bullying the other children into doing his bidding. Upon their introduction, Evan greets Sammy with friendship while in his black heart he wishes him dead, vowing revenge for the happy family life Sammy once shared with his father and grandmother. The brothers' lives appear to change for the better when a wealthy family, the Randolphs, adopts them as a playmate for their daughter, Angel. Although the mother, Hilda Randolph, has the best of intentions, it is her second husband, Bart Randolph, stepfather to her daughter Angel, who seeks Evan out for his diabolical plans-plans designed to not only murder Hilda and her daughter to seize Hilda's family's millions, but to change the direction of the war in America. Bart Randolph, a Nazi, has been posing as an American to take down Hilda's powerful company. In the midst of all the chaos, the brothers find themselves on opposing sides, entangled in the struggle of good and evil.
