This is the second novel in the Natalie Strawn series. Natalie is a single empty-nester who, not by chance, is reunited with her former confidant Antonio, both being enthusiastic to reel in the years between then and now. After agreeing to meet with Antonio at the fancy Dive Bar that evening, Natalie finds out why she had never been able to go beyond the "friend zone" with Antonio, despite two years of sustained close friendship in a far-away state. In her affinity for charismatic men, she also meets the suave and handsome hometown icon Brian Bronson; and later befriends divorce-stricken Joshua, with whom she had never become well-acquainted, but whom she had remembered from high school days. Good intentions result in tense situations requiring more fixes as time goes on. Personality clashes and city government politics unfold into chaos at the fancy Dive Bar during the start of the December holidays, resulting in a mad dash by Natalie to attempt to save Joshua from injury or death.
