This distinguished regiment is included as one of William F. Fox's "Top 300 Union Fighting Regiments." On October 17, 1861, the First Delaware was reorganized from the 3 months unit and mustered in at Wilmington, Del. as the state's second three year regiment. The First Delaware had 37 officers and 846 men. The regiment fought throughout the war in Virginia, participating in every major battle beginning at Antietam. The Regiment lost during service 12 Officers and 146 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 3 Officers and 118 Enlisted men by disease.
