The Tennessee 1st Infantry Regiment Volunteers was organized May 9, 1861 at Nashville, Tennessee; mustered into Confederate service August 1, 1861; reorganized about May 1, 1862 at Corinth, Mississippi and consolidated with the TN 27th Infantry Regiment in December of 1862. It was merged into 1st Consolidated Tennessee Regiment April, 1865; paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, April 26, 1865. The regiment moved to Virginia, took part in Lee's Cheat Mountain Campaign, served under T.J. Jackson, then in February, 1862, returned to Tennessee. After fighting at Shiloh and Perryville, it was assigned to Maney's and Palmer's Brigade, Army of Tennessee, and during December, 1862, was consolidated with the 27th Regiment. It participated in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesborough to Atlanta, endured Hood's winter operations in Tennessee, and ended the war in North Carolina.
